Diponegoro University (UNDIP), through the Technical Implementation Unit for Consultation Services, Disability, Discipline Enforcement, and Student Ethics (UPT LKDPDEM), organized a Training on Strengthening the Role of Disability Companions<\/em> on Monday (March 9, 2026) at the 5th Floor of the ICT Center Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus.<\/p>\n

This activity reflects UNDIP\u2019s commitment to strengthening its inclusive service system and enhancing the capacity of academic staff in providing appropriate assistance for students with disabilities.<\/p>\n

The event was officially opened by the Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs of UNDIP, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Ir. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T. In his remarks, Prof. Heru emphasized that providing services and support for students with disabilities is an institutional responsibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether we like it or not, as an institution we must provide services and assistance for students with disabilities, especially considering that mental disabilities are currently among the most prevalent and may often go undetected,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

As a symbol of commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable campus environment, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Ir. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T. also presented the Inclusive Campus<\/em> pin to representatives of the academic community and educational staff.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by Vice Deans for Academic and Student Affairs from various Faculties\/Schools, academic advisors, counselors, and education staff within UNDIP. The training featured two competent speakers: Costrie Ganes Widayanti, S.Psi., M.Si.Med., Ph.D., who delivered a session titled \u201cInclusive Service Strategies for Students with Disabilities,\u201d<\/em> and dr. Fanti Saktini, M.Si.Med., Sp.K.J., AHK, who presented \u201cAssistance for Students with Mental Disabilities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In her presentation, Costrie highlighted that students with disabilities require appropriate approaches without compromising their rights to access educational services. She also emphasized that the core principle of inclusive education is ensuring that all students, without exception, have equal opportunities to learn and develop, where differences become strengths in maximizing potential.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, dr. Fanti explained the importance of the role of educators in assisting students with mental disabilities. She noted that such support must be grounded in empathy, including creating a safe and private space for communication so that students feel comfortable sharing their concerns.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to show empathy and invite them to have private conversations, so that their problems can be properly understood and addressed,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

In addition to the presentation sessions, the event also featured a video showcasing Disability Facilities as Support Toward an Inclusive Campus<\/em> at Diponegoro University. The video highlighted various efforts and facilities provided by UNDIP to support accessibility and comfort for students with disabilities within the campus environment.<\/p>\n

Through this activity, UPT LKDPDEM UNDIP reaffirmed its commitment to promoting an inclusive, disability-friendly, and equitable campus environment. It is hoped that this training will enhance awareness and readiness among all stakeholders in providing optimal support, ensuring that every student has equal access to quality education.
